Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure. Depending on the issues you’re addressing with the procedure.

Chemical peels use a solution to remove outer layers of skin, revealing newer and healthier skin underneath. They can help with wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin concerns. There are different types and strengths of peels. After the solution is applied, there may be discomfort and redness, and peeling can last for days to a week. Chemical peels promote new skin growth and can be done by professionals. Proper aftercare is important for best results.

You'll Choose A Chemical Peel In One Of Three Depths

Light chemical peel

A light(superficial) chemical peel removes the outer layer of skin(epidermis). It's used to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone, and dryness. You might have a light peel every two to four weeks.

Medium chemical peel

A medium chemical peel removes skin cells from the epidermis and from portions of the upper part of your middle layer of skin(dermis). It's used to treat wrinkles, acne scars and uneven skin tone. You might need to repeat the procedure to achieve or maintain the desired result.

Deep chemical peel

A deep chemical peel removes skin cells even deeper. Your doctor might recommend one for deeper wrinkles, scars, or precancerous growths. You won't need repeat procedures to get the full effect in some cases.

Chemical Peels

Lactic acid, a type of alpha hydroxy acid, is derived from sour milk and is used for the mildest, most gentle of chemical peels. It contains keratolytic AHA that improves skin texture and promotes smooth skin. It is less irritating and drying, delivering smoother, softer, and younger-looking skin while it helps diminish fine lines, acne, and hyperpigmentation(brown spots). Most individuals do not see actual skin peeling just a brightness and glow to the skin 10 to 14 days after the peel. It is considered the lightest(superficial) chemical peel to be done.

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA)

The primary ingredient in a TCA chemical peel is trichloroacetic acid, a derivative of vinegar, and it exists in concentrations of 15–70%. It is the strongest of all chemical peels and is considered a deep peel.

There are multiple TCA peel benefits that can help patients improve the visible appearance of their skin. TCA peels are most commonly used to treat the skin on the face and neck, but they may also be used on the chest, back, arms, legs, or other areas of the body frequently exposed to sunlight. Depending on the strength of the chemical peel, those containing TCA can help you achieve the following benefits with noticeable improvements to the skin.

  • Reduced brown spots and age spots
  • Improved texture of leathery, sun-damaged skin
  • Reduced appearance of certain types of acne
  • Fewer fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improved appearance of skin with melasma
  • Increased skin elasticity and hydration
